Book Synopsis

Everville: The First Pillar

Owen Sage is the emblematic college freshman at Easton Falls University. With all the worries about his first year in college, he was not prepared for what would happen next. His way of life was flipped upside down when he mysteriously crossed into another dimension, into the beautiful land of Everville. His excitement was abruptly halted when he discovered that there was a darkness forged against both the natural world, which he knew well, and the new land which he discovered, Everville. He must devise a plan to save both worlds while joining forces with the race of Fron and The Keepers, whom both harbor hidden secrets he must learn in order to gain power over the evil that dwells in The Other In Between. With a race against time to save both worlds, his short time at Easton Falls did not quite prepare him for the evil, dark forces he must fight in order to conquer The Other In Between.

Everville: The City of Worms

College freshman Owen Sage has just started to understand the darkness trying to overtake Everville and the earthly realm. With the help of The Keeper and the Fron army, Owen has managed to buy some time, but new problems have already emerged, new secrets need to be revealed, and the race against time to stop Them from conquering both dimensions has only just begun. The Keeper, Owen Sage, and his friends at Easton Falls University must now battle threats from within. To do it, they must reunite with familiar creatures and join forces with new ones as they navigate their journey to the truth that awaits them in Everville.

As the epic journey continues, a victorious Owen Sage stands undefeated against his enemies. His last battle in Everville gave rise to a new insidious evil, Mallory; whose determination to defeat him opens an unexplored Pandora’s box. Owen’s search for truth will unveil the mystery and surprising insights surrounding himself and his friends at Easton Falls University. New creatures will be uncovered and the true value of friendship will be tested, as Owen embarks on yet another battle in Everville.

Promo Event: Nadia’s Tears by Julie Gilbert

Title: Nadia’s Tears
Series: Devya’s Children
Author: Julie C. Gilbert
Released: July 31, 2013
Genre: YA Sci-Fiction
Presented by: As You Wish Tours

Jillian must enter Nadia’s dreams to wake her from a mysterious coma. In Nadia’s dreams, Jillian meets several versions of her sister, including the elegant Queen Elena, fierce Naidine, and heartbroken Nadie. Meanwhile, Danielle must save her friend Christy from making choices that could get them both killed.

“The sooner Ashlynn sorts Nadia, the sooner we can get back on schedule,” Dr. Devya replied. He sounded like a man trying to tame a lion.

“We don’t know if she can sort Nadia,” Dr. Carnasis snapped. She glared up at Dr. Devya. From her expression, I knew she was just barely refraining from stabbing Dr. Devya in the chest with the pen she held in one clenched fist. “We know next to nothing about why she is the way she is, but needlessly endangering Jillian is irresponsible, callous, and stupid!”

“Evie, you’re letting your feelings for Ashlynn affect your—”

“Do you remember what today is?” Dr. Carnasis interrupted.

Dr. Devya ran a hand through his mussed brown hair. “Of course, I remember; it’s Nadia’s birthday.”

“Nadia’s fourteenth birthday,” Dr. Carnasis corrected. “Do you remember what that means?” she inquired, arching an eyebrow while still glaring at Dr. Devya.

“Sure. Her Gift should give her the ability to alter vital signs, her own and anyone in close physical proximity to her.” Dr. Devya spoke as if he was reciting a list of groceries to pick up. “If we want to train her in that, we’re going to have to wake her. Ashlynn’s our best hope for digging her out of the coma.”

“Has it ever occurred to you that Nadia might feel threatened by Jillian’s presence in her mind?” Dr. Carnasis, just realizing she’d been strangling her pen, clipped the pen to a board tucked under her left arm.

Understanding dawned in Dr. Devya’s light brown eyes. “You think Nadia might actually harm Ashlynn?” He looked disturbed by his own question. “That would be totally against her programming.” He sounded like the very idea violated some fundamental law of nature.

With most of her anger already spent, Dr. Carnasis just seemed tired. “We should be prepared for anything. Obviously, dropping into a coma wasn’t exactly planned for either.”

“True,” Dr. Devya admitted. He narrowed his eyes in deep concentration. “Should we try a hard wire?”

About Me

Julie mainly confines her writing to three genres: Christian inspirational, YA real-world science fiction, and normal science fiction.

She likes teaching, writing, reading, sleeping, doing puzzles, and hanging out with friends. (Not necessarily in that order)

Writing has made her super picky about the things she reads but normally, her reading list includes something that fits under the thriller, mystery, science fiction, or fantasy.

Occasionally, she attempts short poetry. The poems turn into songs, which she sings with abandon when nobody’s looking.

Prossia Prequel Blog Event

I have special guest, Raphyel Jordan–author of Prossia–on my blog today. His prequel (Evaluations of the Tribe) to Prossia is launching, so check out the artwork and details below. There’s also a giveaway, so be sure to check it out!

We’re More Alike Than You Think – Do you remember what your childhood was like? Can you recall that sense of wonder you had around every turn of the corner? Or how about when everything could be made okay at the end of the day if Mom and Dad took you out for ice-cream? Wouldn’t it be cool if other sentient beings from a different planet had fund memories like that as well? When I wrote my very first novel, “Prossia”, I introduced readers to a seventeen-year-old alien girl named Aly, who was just drafted into a galactic war. Beyond having to cope with leaving her home, meeting different races and species, and trying to stay alive on the battlefield, she seemed ready to take the call to arms, no matter what the cost would be. So, here was the question many probably asked after reading the novel: Just what sort of upbringing shapes a person, like this alien, to face such situations?

“Evaluations of the Tribe” was written to answer that. Throughout the original “Prossia” novel, Aly and her best friend, Catty, made numerous references about their childhood, from that one time Aly struck Catty in the face with a Goolian dankerball, to the moment when Catty was finally told about Aly’s special “condition.” Readers of “Evaluations” will be able to go into further detail about such events and more as we unravel the world that shaped these two dynamic characters into the teenage soldiers that can handle themselves during wartimes.

And here’s the great thing about the prequel; you can pick it up at whatever stage you’re at with the Prossia series. Have you not read “Prossia” yet? Then, here’s a book you can check out that will lead you right into the original! Did you read “Prossia” first? Why not dwell a little into some exciting backstory that will make the original book even more rewarding to read? I mean, what’ll it cost you? The prequel IS free, after all. 🙂

“Evaluations of the Tribe” is a celebration of that stubborn unwillingness youth seem to have when it comes to giving up, much the way its predecessor, “Prossia,” is. Let’s travel to a place untouched by human beings, where the people of the planet are green, agile, and capable of firing plasma from their hands. Does it sound out of this world? You bet! Still, the creatures on this planet aren’t much different from us. They want to be held in the arms of the ones they love. They want their children to return home, safe and sound, as they watch them head off to school. They hope they’ll be accepted by those in their inner circle. Oh yeah, and of course, they love desert. 😛

RMJordan PhotoAuthor Bio – Like drawing, Jordan has written stories as far back as possible. In this case, it was once he was able to form basic sentences, around the age of 6 or 7. Back then, his stories were very short “graphic novels,” composed of roughly ten to twenty panels of illustrations with dialogue.

However, his stories became more elaborate with age. Once he reached middle school, most of Jordan’s stories were fan fiction and were still in a comic or graphic novel format. However, the conflicts in his adventures were becoming more complex, as was his character development. It was only when he reached high school that he made his first attempts at writing adventures without the aid of pictures. Unfortunately, such ambitions were still a little too far-fetched for him at the time, having never finished anything beyond the first chapter.

Then came college, what he refers to being his “personal my age of Renaissance.” Jordan learned the basic foundations to creating a story during his first year, and once he had to take a break from classes — due to financial reasons — he had tons of time to work on a craft he still considered to be unfamiliar with. So, when he was 19, Jordan started to write a story about a young alien girl who was drafted into a galactic war. However, unlike previous attempts at writing a novel, Jordan kept coming back to the keyboard, longing to get to the next scene, and the next, and before he knew it, two years had passed, and he had completed the first draft to a manuscript. Fast forward three years later, that manuscript became “Prossia,” his first published novel.

Now Jordan browses through a list of outlines and drafts to numerous adventures just waiting to be published.

Oracle of Delphi Blog Tour

Today I have a special guest, Diantha Jones, author of the Oracle of Delphi series. She is going to share her take on sexy men in literature…should be fun! Also, be sure to check out her social media and book links at the bottom of the post. There happens to be two giveaways at the end of the post as well! Now, here’s Diantha:

Why He’s Hot: My Take on Sexy Men in Literature

Bookish females say some crazy stuff, but it always kills me when they are like,

“Why do all the men in fiction books have to be so hot?”

Are you kidding me?

Honestly, do you REALLY want to read a book about an ugly guy? Be real with yourself: NO. Unless the book is about being ugly, why in THE WORLD would you want to spend your free time reading about some dude that looks like Quasimodo?

“Because Diantha, it’s more realistic.” *flips hair*

Girl, shut up. Fiction books aren’t reality! That’s why they’re called fiction!

Yes, I understand. Contemporary lit is supposed to be an imitation of real life and not every guy in real life is hot stuff (In fact, most of them aren’t). But even still, it’s supposed to provide a fantasy. There may not be vampires or werewolves involved, but it’s still not actuality. It’s still fiction and if a book doesn’t take me out of this world and put me in a new one, then what’s the point?

Swoon-worthy guys are what it’s all about! And there is a book boyfriend/husband out there for each of us. Some of my faves?

Daemon Black, Lux

Dean Holder, Hopeless

Aiden St. Delphi, Covenant

Edward Cullen, Twilight (YES! It’s Twilight! Don’t judge me.)

Remy “Riptide” Tate, Real, Ripped & Raw

John Matthew, Black Dagger Brotherhood

Jericho Barrons, Fever

Bowen MacRieve, Immortals After Dark

And recently, Hunter, Obsession

Oh, and how could I forget Strafford Law, Oracle of Delphi. Yes, I created him, but this demigod Prince is one heartthrob who I absolutely love to write about. He’s sexy, sarcastic, and simply irresistible when he turns the swag on. Basically, he’s the male version of me 😉

But my point is, the guys above are crazy vital to these series and I’m almost positive that their impact would not be as great if they didn’t have major sex appeal to go along with their personalities, intelligence, and overall awesomeness. Honestly, if I can’t see myself married to, dating, sleeping with, or simply making out with the main guy in a book, he isn’t worth reading about.

I don’t go for bad boys, or rockers.

And I don’t believe in love at first sight.

Until I see Beckett.

And things only get worse when I hear him sing.

There is no one like him.

The problem is that he wants nothing to do with me.

And I know I should stay away from him.

It’s the smart thing to do.

Only when it comes to Beckett I don’t want to do the smart thing. He makes me want to take a risk.

I just hope he decides to take a risk on me too.

Then I lower my gaze and I start playing. As I sing through the verse I’m careful not to make eye contact with Star. But when we reach the chorus and her voice rings out, my eyes lift to hers. Her lips are pressed against the mic between us and I find my gaze lingering on them. Her body moves ever so slightly as she sings and it’s damn sexy. Her lips are pursed and I’m acutely aware of the fact that if I move the microphone out of the way we would totally be making out. I wish I could say that this didn’t tempt me in the least, but then I’d be a liar. In fact, through the rest of the song all I can think about is kissing her. Ironic that the lyrics are about wanting something you can’t have. Star is someone I need to stay as far away from as possible. She’s too good for me. I hardly know her, and yet that’s painfully obvious.  I won’t drag her into all of my garbage. When the song finishes, it takes me a minute to compose myself. I get a little satisfaction out of seeing how dazed Star seems to be too.

Only it’s probably more about the rush of singing on stage. I doubt she spent the entire song thinking about kissing me. It’s obvious by the dazed look on her face that she’s relishing the feeling of performing in front of a crowd. Not that I blame her. There really is nothing like it.
