In your career or in life, there will be certain things that don’t go to plan. Failing at something is just a part of life. We have been told since we were small that it would help us to improve and help us to actually be better in the future. But moving past failure can be easier said than done.
We don’t like to fail, and for many of us, we can fear it. That can stop us doing things or taking certain chances. And that is no way to live! So how can we embrace failure if it happens and move past it with success? Here are some strategies to follow. I hope that they help!
If you fail at one thing that it doesn’t mean you are a failure at everything. It is important to differentiate the things that failed from you. It just means that you haven’t found a good way to do a certain thing; yet, anyway. Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb, is famous for having said “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”
He went on to create one of the greatest and most useful inventions known to man. So he and other very famous people who failed, still make it work for them. They didn’t give up, and they carried on. The same can go for you, so don’t get too upset and don’t take it personally.
Don’t Obsess Over It
If you dwell on the failure too much, it does nothing but waste time. In fact, if you dwell on it too much it can make the failure even worse. It will hinder you from doing other things and will have you in some kind of emotional downward spiral. So don’t dwell on it for a long time.
You can’t change the failure and what happened. The only thing you can do is to move on and make sure that you don’t repeat the same mistake.
One of the worst things about failing is that fact that we might be letting other people down. We might feel that we will be judged wrongly or lose other people’s respect. So we just do nothing. Wrong! We need to move past the part where we only get approval from others. Otherwise, we will never be happy.
We need to learn to be happy ourselves and not rely on anyone else’s judgment. What one person sees is just one aspect of it all. They don’t know anything about how you got to where you are or the decisions you had to make. So put other people out of your mind.
We all seem to have an innate thing in our minds that failure is a weakness. It means you are bad or no good. But that is not the case at all. We need to change our mindset to realize that failure doesn’t mean you can never do anything well again. Think positively, and it will make a big difference to your life.
