My rating: 4 of 5 stars

*I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review*

The School of Ministry: The Windgate by Braxton Cosby is a story of hope, courage, and perseverance—qualities we could stand to have more of in the world. Cosby is a very gifted storyteller and provides great action throughout the novel. Though the SOM series is categorized as YA, I also believe it could fit into the New Adult genre, especially with the ages of the characters and themes of the book.

The main character, Ziv, is a very likeable character whom readers will come to care about, wanting to know what is in store for him after each challenge he faces. The other characters are very interesting and when one of the “bad guys” is revealed—I must say that I did not see that coming. Therefore, Cosby does an excellent job of creating mystery and intrigue throughout.

At times, there was so much detail—for my taste—that it took away from the action. However, this story, as a whole, was a fun and entertaining read that made me excited to get to the end.

The ending of The Windgate was executed well, leaving me satisfied but also in understanding that there are still unanswered questions and more adventures ahead for Ziv and his companions. Overall, The School of Ministry: The Windgate is a great read that provides a new perspective on Christian themes through the avenue of literary fiction. I look forward to the next installment in this series.
